Contents estimating
The contents estimate, from photo to package
ClaimTime runs the whole contents estimate in one place. Photos become line items, each line is priced from new retail, your depreciation turns RCV into ACV, and room and claim totals roll up into an Excel workbook, an HTML claim report or a claim package.
Five tools for one estimate
A contents estimate is identification, pricing, depreciation, totals and a deliverable. Spread across separate apps, every hand-over between them is a chance to lose a line.
The manual way
- Photos in one app, the item list in a spreadsheet, prices in a dozen browser tabs.
- Depreciation worked out in a second sheet that drifts away from the first.
- Room totals and sales tax added up by hand before every send.
- The final file pieced together from copies, with no link back to the photo or the price.
With ClaimTime
- Each photo becomes a line item in the room it was taken in.
- Every price keeps its retail source, one click away.
- Depreciation and ACV are calculated on the same lines you priced.
- Room and claim totals, tax and the hand-off files all come from the same data.
Everything a contents estimate needs
- Identify the contents. Photos and imported item lists become line items, filed by room for your review. See AI contents inventory.
- Price from new retail. Up to three new-retail sources per item, with product photos and links you can open. See AI replacement cost pricing.
- Depreciate to ACV. Age, yearly rate and cap per item, or flat and category rates across the claim. See the Depreciation manager.
- Deliver the estimate. An Excel workbook, an HTML claim report or a combined claim package. See Reports & exports.
Follow one sofa through the estimate
The sample claim's sofa, from the photo to the claim package: what ClaimTime drafts, what you check, and what each stage adds to the line.
Real screens of the sample claim (CLM-26-0582). AI drafts the item and finds the sources; you review the line, choose the source and set the age and the rates.
Line by line, room by room
Every line has an RCV: its unit price times its quantity. The room's RCV and the claim's Total RCV sit at the top of the inventory and keep up as you work. Once depreciation is applied, each line also carries its Dep % and its ACV.
In the exports, every room gets RCV and ACV subtotals and the claim gets its grand totals. Sales tax comes from the claim's tax state and is added on RCV in the Excel workbook and the HTML claim report.
- Line RCV = unit price × quantity
- Room RCV and Total RCV in the inventory
- Dep % and ACV on every depreciated line
- State sales tax applied in the exports
Check the carrier's estimate line by line
Open the Comparison tab and start a new reconciliation: pick the type, then upload your estimate and the carrier's as PDF, XLSX or CSV. ClaimTime reads both, you review the parsed lines, then it pairs them and sorts every line into Matched, Qty diff, Price diff, Missing from the carrier, or Carrier extra.
The headline gives the total variance and what drives it: missing items, pricing and quantity gaps. Fix a pairing, add a note, mark a line resolved, then export the reconciliation as a PDF or an Excel file, or add it to the claim package. Matching only assists: you decide what to dispute.
One estimate, three ways out
Export the reviewed inventory as an Excel workbook with every line, source link, tax and total, or as an HTML claim report that opens in any browser, with photos if you want them.
When the whole claim goes out together, build a claim package: one combined PDF and one Excel file with the claim summary, contents by room, the comparison, the ALE recommendation, a photos appendix and signed documents. Exports use no Time Tokens. Every file you make is kept in the claim's export history.

Each part feeds the next one
Contents estimating is the sum of these features working on one set of lines.
- AI contents inventory: The inventory supplies the lines: each photo's item, its room, quantity and the age you enter.
- AI replacement cost pricing: Pricing sets each line's unit price from a new-retail source, so RCV is price times quantity.
- Depreciation manager: Depreciation turns each line's RCV into ACV with the rates and caps you choose.
Questions about contents estimates
What is contents estimating software?
Software that turns the personal property in a loss into a priced estimate: each item identified, valued at replacement cost, depreciated to ACV and totaled by room. ClaimTime does this from photos and imported lists, and you review every line.
Does ClaimTime estimate structure repairs?
Not yet. Structure estimates are coming soon. Room measurements from Sketch & room scans already live on the claim and go out in the Sketch export.
What's in the claim package?
One combined PDF and one Excel file, built in your browser from the sections you pick: a claim summary with RCV and ACV, the contents inventory by room, sketch floor plans, the estimate comparison, the ALE recommendation, a photos appendix and signed documents.
Can I import a carrier estimate to compare?
Yes. Upload both estimates and ClaimTime parses them. You review the lines, then it pairs them and sorts each one into Matched, Qty diff, Price diff, Missing or Carrier extra, with the dollar variance. You decide what goes into the supplement.
Does the estimate include sales tax?
Yes, in the exports. Set the claim's tax state, and the Excel workbook and the HTML claim report add sales tax on RCV and a grand total with tax.
Can I start from the policyholder's own list?
Yes. Import an item list as CSV, XLSX, PDF or a photo of the list. Each line becomes an item you price and depreciate like any other.
What does an estimate cost to run?
Each photo analysis, or each line of an imported list, uses one Time Token. Organizing, editing and exporting use none. A free account comes with 50 Time Tokens and needs no card.
